Matt Gouldthorpe

Matt graduated from Liverpool John Moores University in 1997 with a Bsc (Hons) in Sports Science. Having developed an interest in sports medicine and musculoskeletal injuries he continued with his education in this area and graduated from Liverpool University in 2001 as a qualified chartered physiotherapist. He initially worked in the NHS and gained experience in a wide range of specialities. It was during this period that Matt was able to develop his skills in sports injuries by working with the youth teams of a professional football team. This involved the treatment and rehabilitation of a variety of acute and chronic injuries. Matt also became involved in a number research projects during this time and the use of evidence based practice is essential to his treatment.

From 2008 to the present day Matt has worked in the private sector for Spire Cheshire Hospital and the Katie Copeland Physiotherapy Clinic. Since this time Matt has been able to specialise in spinal and peripheral musculoskeletal disorders. To treat these conditions he uses a variety of techniques which includes exercise, manual therapy, soft tissue mobilisation, electrotherapy and acupuncture. Matts special clinical interests are sports injury rehabilitation and spinal disorders and he currently acts as a manual handling trainer for Spire Cheshire hospital and the local GP practices. Matt is continuing his professional development by studying at Keele Univerisity and he has recently completed Msc modules in movement dysfunction and acupuncture.

Outside of work Matt enjoys keeping fit, outdoor activities, and playing the guitar.
